To make your journey as comfortable as possible, a number of house rules apply at HTM's stops and in its vehicles. These rules apply at every vehicle and at all HTM stops. Please note: different additional rules may apply per vehicle. Read the house rules for tram and bus here.

  • Valid ticket - As soon as you board the tram or bus, you are required to have a valid ticket. Check in with your OV-chipkaart or (mobile) debit card to travel on balance or subscription, or buy a ticket in the tram, bus or service shop. All HTM employees may ask travellers for a valid ticket.
  • Folding bicycles - Folding bicycles are allowed on HTM buses and trams. Please note that this is only allowed if the bikes are completely folded.
  • Camera surveillance - Some HTM bus stops, trams and buses have video cameras. These locations can be recognised by the sticker with the camera symbol. The images are recorded. The driver/driver does not have access to the recording equipment. Read in the Privacy Statement how we handle the images.
  • No eating, drinking and smoking - We like to keep the trams and buses clean. Smoking, eating and drinking are therefore prohibited in all HTM vehicles. This ban also applies at some stops and stations (such as the tram tunnel, Central Station and Beatrixkwartier). The e-cigarette (vape) is also covered by this ban.
  • No rollerblades, roller skates, skateboards, etc. - Skeelers, skateboards and similar utensils must be carried in your hand or in a bag. These items should not be used in HTM vehicles.
  • No feet down on the bench - To keep the trams and buses clean and whole, this is not allowed. We sit with our feet down on a bench or seat.
  • Dogs on a leash and not on the seat - Dogs are allowed free of charge in all HTM vehicles. Animals are on a leash and in the aisle.
  • Do not cause noise pollution - Listen to music with headphones or earplugs to avoid noise pollution.
  • Identify yourself - In connection with blackouts, everyone aged 12 and over must be able to identify themselves with a passport, identity card or driving licence. HTM inspectors may ask for proof of identity and issue an official report.
  • Recognisable BOAs - HTM inspectors are dressed in uniform and can be recognised by the Control and Safety and BOA (special investigating officer) logos. If asked, they will show proof of identity showing that the person is a supervisor for the
  • Passenger Transport Act 2000. HTM also carries out checks in civilian clothes; the checker will always have to identify himself beforehand.
Terms and conditions - Transport terms and conditions and the privacy statement apply to all HTM transport services.
